I look forward to hearing from you.
Sammy J on ABC Melbourne aked me again to provide a phantom call on Melbourne Cup day this year. This time, racing the suburbs of Melbourne!
You can listen to how it went by clicking HERE
THANKS AGAIN SAMMY for letting me do these things on your program!
Some listeners have been asking for a transcript of the race so here it is!
"Just about set now for the Suburbs of Melbourne Cup. And they've come from far and wide.
A big contingent from the Upper Stable. Upper Ferntree Gully, Beaconsfield Upper, Upper Plenty and of course, everyone's favourite, Pakenham Upper. And Melton is the last one in. Slipped into contention around April this year.
Starter has them. Lights are on.
And they're off and racing. Oh no, Arthurs Seat has stopped again. And Kalkallo is stuck in the gate and in their own housing estate. Thornbuy's squeezed up in between Preston and Northcote.
As they settle down around the first turn, there's the lightweight in Sunshine moving to the front. The jockey Ray, he's slimmed right down for this. He's light, he's little and Little Ray on Sunshine is challenging the front. 2nd is the little known Merrifield, who's come from just outside Mickleham for this.
Waverley nearly lost his jockey but Glen's managed to remount Waverley and they're still in the race.Coburg is back midfield stuck there in on the rail, and he's just managed to get out of jail now.
Nearly didn't see Gardenvale, the smallest suburb going around but about 8 from the lead down the back of the track.
Moorabbin flying along. Werribee is holding his noseband with 600 to go and Capel Sound seems to be doing better after changing stables.
Around the turn they come and suburb mentions starting to pick up speed. Flemington and Caulfield going at it. Sandown close in company with these two. Richmond is trying to take over Cremorne and Ascot Vale has snuck in between Flemington and Travancore and moving quickly up on North Melbourne.
Around the final turn and there's a wall of one syllable suburbs. Skye, Clyde, Kew and Rye. AND Bayswater is nowwhere near the bay, what's up with that? Further out are Balnarring, Bulla and South Morang.
Karen's done all of Brighton and South Melbourne going well as they head past the Montague Street bridge. Into the straight they come.
The Basin is just outside of Boronia which is not far from Wantirna South and there's still 200 suburbs to mention. Chadstone looks to have shopped up late back at the turn.
BUT HERE COMES Frankston, was looking very dodgy early on but has come good! Frankston right down the Nepean HIghway side of Port Phillip! And Frankston is going to win it..in a great result for the battler and the very rich people that live there also. Frankston wins it, Wheelers Hill rolled into 2nd and Tullamarine has landed in 3rd and after the running of the suburbs of Melbourne Cup!"
